Opulence exists because a personal struggle for relief transformed into a mission to bring world-class scalp therapy to Pittsburgh, turning a leap of faith and a “beat-up” brick-walled space into a sanctuary where healing meets high-end relaxation.
In 2021, Ashley was dealing with a dry, flaky, difficult scalp and couldn’t find a single specialist in Pittsburgh. After searching online for weeks, she came across Japanese head spas in New York, Chicago, and LA — all with months-long waitlists and nothing remotely similar close to home.
That search turned into an obsession. She found a head spa training course in New York City, booked it, and came back knowing two things: she loved everything about the head spa service, and Pittsburgh didn’t have one. She started casually looking at commercial spaces, not entirely sure what she was building toward. Then she walked into a space on the South Side.
Rough around the edges, beat-up walls, definitely not the aesthetic she had in mind. But there was a beautiful brick wall, and she could see exactly what it could become. She asked about the lease. The landlord said yes, despite the credit score. She took it as a sign.
She poured her savings in, kept bartending nights to fund it, and built Opulence from the floor up. The website, the booking page, the Google listing — all of it figured out through persistence alone. Opulence is now heading into its second year, and it became something none of us expected so quickly.
A few hair salons had started offering Japanese head spa services, but that wasn’t the experience Ashley was after. She wanted something purpose-built: a calm, spa-like environment with no distractions, no salon noise, just one client and one focused treatment. That place didn’t exist in Pittsburgh. So she created it.
Opulence started from nothing. Facebook Marketplace furniture, every saved dollar, and a belief that it could work. Watching it grow into a space where people genuinely love to come — where interesting and accomplished women walk in and feel at home in something she built with her own hands — is about as personal as it gets.

This was truly the best relaxation I’ve ever felt in any type of spa. The staff not only was extremely sweet, but they are so knowledgeable when it comes down to their products and everything they do in regards to the services they provide.
